Things to do in and around Montville

  • Montville village shops and galleries. Take your time walking up and down the main road.
  • Flame Tree Hill Winery is within walking distance.
  • Secrets by the Lake (Just go down Narrows Road and turn left at the bottom.)  Breakfast, lunch and morning and afternoon teas in the café.  Have a look around the property while you are there (but ask the staff first). Don’t be in a hurry to leave.
  • Maleny Cheese for lunch or afternoon tea.
  • Markets:  Eumundi – Wednesday and Saturday.  Yandina – Saturday. Montville – 2nd Saturday morning of the month. Various markets are held on Sundays including Maleny, Caloundra, Cotton Tree, etc.)
  • Obi Valley Woodworks. (Open Saturday and Sunday 10am-4pm). 430 Hunsley Road, Coolabine.  It is a 40 minute drive partly on dirt but is worth a visit. Ring first 54723996.
  • Maleny is bigger than Montville and there are a few galleries in the main street.  We recommend a visit to Peace of Green and Maleny Art Direct.  Art on Cairncross (cnr of Mountain View Road and Maleny Landsborough Road) is also worth stopping for a look.  In Montville we love Montville Art Gallery; Montville Woods Gallery; Amazen; Fudgy Boombah’s; any of the chocolate shops; Cadman’s cottage; Montville Clocks, etc, etc.
  • Bush walking. Waterfalls, rainforest and mountain climbing. (Don’t plan on climbing Mt Beerwah unless you are very experienced but there are a number of the other Glasshouse Mountains you can climb).
  • Picnic or BBQ at Baroon Pocket Dam, Wappa Dam or Ewan Maddock Dam.
  • Gerrards Lookout (about half way between Montville and Maleny) has spectacular views over the coast.
  • Mountain View Road near Maleny has spectacular views of the Glasshouse Mountains. On a clear day you can see the high rise buildings of Brisbane.
  • Maleny Botanic Gardens and Bird World on Stanley River Road.  This is a private garden meaning you have to pay to get in.  Most people who go in find it interesting and the bird aviary is spectacular.
  • Australia Zoo.  Made famous by Steve and Terry Irwin.  It is a really good zoo and worth a day if you have the time.
  • Wildlife HQ is located next to the Big Pineapple in Woombye.  Not as elaborate as Australia Zoo but cheaper.
  • Sea Life in Mooloolaba is worth a visit if you like anything to do with the ocean.
  • Drive around the Conondale Range:  Head to Maleny then to Conondale and Kenilworth.  Make sure you stop at the Kenilworth Bakery for their famous Coffee in a Donut or the 1kg donut challenge. (Good luck).  Kenilworth Dairy is worth an indulgent visit. Then across to Mapleton and back to Montville.  Alternatively, from Kenilworth head to Gympie down the Mary River Valley and then back down the highway.  A visit to Jigsaws on Yabba in Imbil is eye opening but only open on weekends.  Allow a couple of hours to a whole day depending on what you choose to do.
